Super Mario Galaxy Posted on April 19th

Super Mario GalaxyWe’ve owned a Wii pretty much ever since it came out and while my hat has been off to Nintendo’s innovation in controls I was less than impressed with the games. Mega snoozers with relatively unsophisticated graphics if you match it up to XBOX360 or PlayStation 3. But being a Mario fan since Donkey Kong days I had to play Super Mario Galaxy. I love it! This is the best Mario game since Super Mario World on the SNES. Mario 64 was amazing to look at when it first came out but was awful to play. I understand many people loved that game but I thought it sucked the lamas ass. Super Mario Sunshine came out for the GameCube and I enjoyed it, but didn’t love it. Galaxy leveraged all the innovation of the Wii and just made it a lot of fun with minimal annoyances (like ineffective camera angles for example).

Nintendo slightly enhanced the graphics since Sunshine, but the cartooniness works really well. They even found several opportunities to incorporate some of the classic 2D side scrolling action we love from the originals. Both Elizebeth and Ava love to play it too. And I think the fact that a 4 year old can cruise around a world exploring says a lot about the intuitiveness of the controls.

Big thumbs up. If you have a Wii, definitely give it a try.

Sean.
